The Reformation of Malaysian Football
I wrote this about 3 months ago after a stupid game...
With the end of most football league in Europe, Saturday night pretty much a boring night for football addict with two energetic kids. Knowing that Akademi Fantasia will be the choice of my wife, I took a big decision to call up my friend asking for a free ticket to the Malaysian Super League game(wonder why they call it super when they could always use the old Premier). Although I’m not really a big fan of MPPJ I thought it could be a big escape from the dangerous symptom of AF addict which can be disastrous when the European football season starts.
How was the game? Awful will be an understatement when you feel sad, angry, stupid and deceived at the same time. The game started clumsy at first and my god it continues to be like that for 90 minutes, players running but none of them with real direction, lots of passes were made at an awkward speed and 60% of them were inaccurate. It makes you wonder if the J-League were playing with different balls than us because none of the players can stop the ball well. Crosses from both flanks were ballooning pass the goal or should I say the corner flag, dribbling was far from smooth and the only good thing about that game was the ending wisel.
Why? We, as in the Malaysian football fan have got to suffer and being forced to turn our head and loyalty to other overseas club when we should be flocking the stadium supporting the local team. The feelings of belonging to the local league are something to be in awe of but it was long gone with the late Mokhtar Dahari and gang. Or could it be the Singaporean curse because the last major tournament we won was the one we did against them during the late 80’s SEA games final. Back then, playing against Indonesian team were just like an evening walk to the Malaysian hero and it was only the Korean team that scare us a bit… Wake up guys….Malaysian Football do need to reform..
